What is .EU?
.eu is a new Top Level Domain available to any individual who is an European Union resident or any organisation or company established in the EU. It does not replace the existing national ccTLDs in the EU, but complements them, giving EU residents the option of having a pan-European Internet identity for their online presence.
Why should I register a .eu domain?
This new TLD is particularly useful for organizations and companies operating at a European level, which have taken advantage of the EU Single Market.
A survey conducted by Hostway with 200 of our business customers in 2005, found that the new .eu domain name is set to be as big as .com. According to the survey, nearly two thirds of businesses (64%) felt that the new domain name will be important to their business operations in Europe. The majority of respondents (60%) believed that customers will eventually use .eu rather than .com when looking for companies based in the European Union. The .eu domain name is available to all of the 25 nations, and 450 million people that make up the European community. To register .eu domain name(s), you must be one of the following
- Undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community.
- Organisations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law.
- Natural persons resident within the European Community.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the .EU registry will simply reject any registration if the country postal code on the application does not belong to a country that is part of the official union.
Who operates the Registry for .eu?
The .eu TLD is managed and operated by a private sector, non-profit organisation called EURid (the Registry), in consultation with the European Internet community.
How long can I register a .eu domain for?
A .eu domain name can be registered for a maximum term of 1 year. Registrants will be emailed renewal reminders prior to the expiry date of the domain.
When can I order my .eu domain name?

The .EU Sunrise pre-registration period has come to an end (00.00 CET Friday 7th April) and the Land Rush period has begun. This means .EU regsitrations are now open to anyone or any organisation who is eligible. You can secure your .EU domain today by using our secure orderform (below).
How will I know if my .eu domain name registration has been successful?
After the go-live date (April 7th, 2006) it may take 2-3 days for us to update our systems and activate successfully registered domains. During this time please be patient and wait for an e-mail notification from us that will verify the result of your application. All domain names purchased after April 7th, 2006 will be processed immediately, and unlike Sunrise pre-registrations you are not requried to send documentary evidence supporting your application.
I made a Sunrise application, how will i know if it was successful?
If you participated in the Sunrise Pre-registration and your request was successfully validated beforehand, we will submit your pre-reg order(s) to the Registry when they open at 11:00AM CET April 7th for their Landrush processing. Customers will likewise be notified as to the success of their application(s) 2 to 3 days following the close of the landrush period.
How are Sunrise applications validated?
If you participated in the Sunrise Pre-registration your application is processed through PricewaterhouseCoopers. As Validation Agent for EURid, PricewaterhouseCoopers takes an active role in order to ensure that the validation process is conducted in an objective, transparent and non-discriminatory manner. We advise all .eu Sunrise Pre-registration applicants to visit the PricewaterhouseCoopers online validation services for EURid FAQ page located on their website to review the .eu Sunrise validation process.
